Betsy Pecor, a Breeze Transit ambassador and Sarasota resident, described her volunteer duties greeting riders, helping with stops and reporting service issues to county staff, and urged neighbors to sign up at scgov.net/volunteer.
Pecor said she took the role after retiring because she wanted to stay engaged with people. “I—m Betsy Pecor,” she began, explaining she applied after a neighbor pointed her to the county volunteer page and found the Breeze Transit Ambassador position.
She outlined routine duties: “I communicate with the customers. I greet them. I help them with stops. I I communicate with the driver to find out, you know, if I—m doing something off beat or what he needs me to do,” Pecor said, adding she listens closely to riders and relays suggestions to county staff for service improvements or removals.
Pecor emphasized the broader community benefit of local transit, saying it is vital “for the elderly who probably don—t like the congestion, especially during high season. And you need it for college students. We have several colleges around here.” She framed the ambassador role as both a learning opportunity for volunteers and a source of actionable feedback for the county.
Pecor also described promoting Sarasota to riders and noted volunteer work helps showcase the area to visitors. She closed with a call to action: “If anybody would like to volunteer, it—s very easy. You go to the website, scgov.net/volunteer.”
The remarks were a personal appeal to recruit volunteers for Breeze Transit and to underline how rider contact can inform county decisions about local public transportation.
