Bishop’s resignation was read into the record by the mayor as a written letter. In the letter she wrote, “It is with deep sadness that I submit my resignation as the 5th Ward alderperson effective after the close of this meeting due to ongoing health issues that require my full attention at this time.”
The council responded with expressions of gratitude and support. Councilmember Quisenberry said he had enjoyed working with Bishop and offered prayers. Councilmember Verdell Jones thanked her for work on police department improvements and other city efforts; other members offered similar praise and wishes for recovery.
The resignation takes effect at the meeting’s close; the council did not take further action during the session to fill the vacancy or set a timetable for replacement.
