The Arapahoe City Council on June 16 adopted Ordinance 2026-03, authorizing the rounding of cash transactions to the nearest nickel following the Nebraska Legislature’s passage of LB 838. Councilmember Paulsen moved to pass the ordinance and Councilmember Kreutzer seconded; the roll call recorded Ayes: Middagh, Kreutzer, Paulsen, Polston and the motion carried with tenBensel and Carpenter absent.
The ordinance requires that when a final cash total ends in 1, 2, 6, or 7 cents the city round down to the nearest nickel; when a final cash total ends in 3, 4, 8, or 9 cents the city round up. Rounding applies solely to the final settled cash amount paid by or returned to a customer and does not alter sales prices, tax amounts, or regulatory fees. The ordinance cites LB 838 and includes severability and effective-date provisions.
The council also voted to suspend the three-reading rule to expedite adoption. The ordinance was signed by Mayor John Koller and attested by City Clerk Dixie Sickels; it takes effect following publication as provided by law.
