Athletic update and WIAA guidance

Nate described a QR‑code pilot to improve game attendance that included three gift‑card incentives and local promotion at dugouts.
Nate also relayed a concern from the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) that posts by private businesses featuring students in uniform can create an eligibility issue if the business appears to benefit. He said the WIAA flagged a local post and that the association advised fixing posts rather than punishing schools immediately. Board members asked about distinctions between media outlets and commercial businesses and expressed frustration that eligibility notices sometimes arrive close to game time.
Fitness/weight‑room and trip policies
District staff presented a first draft of a fitness and weight‑room usage policy intended to standardize access for students, staff and community members. Proposals include after‑hours sign‑in agreements for community users, fob programming that opens the fitness center but not exterior doors, and a buddy‑system requirement for safety. The board agreed to refine the language and bring it back for approval.
On school trips, staff recommended clearer handbook language tying approval levels to duration (time away from the school day) rather than strict mileage, and proposed requiring board approval for any overnight trips because of chaperone, transportation and cost implications.
Personnel, donations and administrative business
The board voted to hire two previously recommended coaches for the track program and accepted a donation of yarn and sewing materials from a local donor. The board approved Start College Now applications with one course held for further review, and appointed Leanne (Gary) as the district representative to NWSA and NSDT. The board also approved an updated superintendent job description and moved into closed session to continue business.
