Millville promotes Officer Glenn Miller to sergeant and awards lifesaving medal

Millville City swore in Officer Glenn Miller as a sergeant and presented him with a lifesaving award at the Board of Commissioners meeting on July 7, 2026.

Chief Hoffman introduced the promotion and described the incident for which Miller was honored: on June 18, 2025, Miller located a motor-vehicle crash in a wooded area between overpasses where the vehicle was on fire and the driver was trapped. Chief Hoffman said an Inspira Hospital EMT attempted to extinguish the flames but was unsuccessful; Miller and the EMT broke a window, assisted the injured driver out of the burning vehicle and carried him to safety. "Due to their actions, a terrible loss of life was prevented," Chief Hoffman said while presenting the lifesaving award.

Miller took the oath of office before the commission and was recognized by colleagues and family members who attended. Mayor Dixon and multiple commissioners offered congratulations; the mayor gave the clerk direction to allow brief photos and to continue the commission’s business after a short recess. Miller thanked the department, the EMT and his family during the brief ceremony.
