Mountainside council honors students, Eagle Scout and 12U softball champions

The mayor read a resolution congratulating Deerfield School valedictorian Aliyah Grazetzky and the salutatorian. Council proclaimed Paul Bataille as grand marshal of the borough’s Memorial Day parade in recognition of his military and public-service record.
Council also recognized George Newcomb for earning the rank of Eagle Scout. Newcomb described his project to enhance the library grounds and “create an outdoor reading space,” saying the work reflected his belief in the importance of reading. “It’s sort of a painful irony that the people who use AI on their assignments... try to avoid having to actually consume this media,” he said.
Finally, the council proclaimed the Mountainside 12U Huskies softball team after a 12–1 season and presented proclamations to players and coaches; the mayor invited the recipients forward for photos.
The proclamations were moved, seconded and approved by the council during the meeting.
