Arlington board closes public hearing on FY2027–2036 CIP, defers action to July

Chair Deferanti opened the hearing, explained public comment procedures and called registered speakers. Residents, nonprofit representatives and business district officials spoke for roughly two hours, urging funding for neighborhood libraries, electrification and clearer climate impact reporting in CIP projects, and accelerated work on community centers and transportation connections.
Several speakers thanked the board for past investments while urging changes to priorities. Michael Gessel, president of Citizens for Cherrydale Library, asked the board to add ADA upgrades for Cherrydale Library to the CIP so the facility meets the Americans with Disabilities Act. Julie Rosenberg of Faith Alliance for Climate Solutions urged greater transparency and an impact statement for each CIP project documenting how it advances county climate and energy goals. Jean Hensroth asked the board to move Lee Center funding sooner and reduce the project scope to make a feasible, usable community hub.
Before adjourning public testimony, the board discussed follow-up items the speakers raised and the timing of deliberations. Chair Deferanti moved to close the public hearing and postpone action to the July meeting; a board member seconded. The motion passed on a vote of 5‑0.
