DDA: 4th Avenue public art concepts submitted; construction to pause for upcoming events

At the July 8 Downtown Development Authority meeting, Executive Director Miss Thompson updated the board on the 4th Avenue public art project and downtown construction scheduling around major summer events.
Miss Thompson told the board that, after round-one feedback, five artists submitted concepts for the 4th Avenue screen art on the 4th and William parking structure. "I sent you the artist proposals and a survey link to help choose the final concept," she said, and asked board members to complete the survey by Tuesday, July 14.
She also provided a construction update: work in the intersection of 4th and Liberty will pause completely from July 10–26 to accommodate a car show, the city’s art fair and two concerts at the Big House on July 24–25. Work on the block of 4th between Liberty and William will pause only during the art fair. Miss Thompson said staff will work with the selected artist to refine the concept for the site.
In response to a question from the chair about the project timeline, Miss Thompson said, "November or December would be the wrap up for that project," and stated that, to her knowledge, the project is on track. When a board member asked about planning for next summer’s downtown construction, Miss Thompson said the capital improvements plan schedule is being set now and staff will have a clearer picture in the fall.
Miss Thompson also said the July board work session was rescheduled from July 15 to July 22 because of vacation schedules and consultant availability; she asked members to confirm whether they could attend that date.
