At its regular meeting the Mason City Board of Education approved a set of superintendent recommendations that included personnel appointments, retirements, contracted support and several action items.
Superintendent Dr. Cooper summarized personnel items that included additional substitute teachers, coaches for spring sports, two retirements (a 37-year MECC employee and a 24-year preschool administrative assistant identified as Michelle Fischley), and contracted support for the innovation and technology transition. Dr. Cooper said retired staff member Mark Merzenowski will return as a contractor to serve as a project manager for that transition.
On action items, the board approved a new copier services agreement with Woodall to begin July 1 and an annual agreement allowing a local farmer access to district property for transport through district land. The board also approved the second reading and adoption of an ASL 4 course to expand the district’s sign-language offerings.
In the treasurer’s report, the board heard that donations and grants on the agenda totaled more than $35,000, including a wellness-related grant highlighted by Treasurer Bevin.
Roll-call votes were taken for the consent and action items; board members present recorded affirmative responses during each roll call. No motions failed and no item was tabled during the meeting.
