Florence board approves emergency sewer repair payment and advances Hwy. 49 sanitary sewer projects

Florence officials on July 1 approved several sewer and water infrastructure actions, including emergency repairs deemed necessary to protect public health and contract steps to advance an ongoing sanitary sewer project.
The board approved payment of $24,107.93 to Maintenance Systems, Inc. for emergency repairs at the Florence Dogwood Hills Pump Station after declaring the work an emergency to guard against possible raw sewage leakage in the area. The payment was recorded as invoice number M25017‑C‑01‑Final and carried by unanimous vote.
City Engineer Tim Parker recommended and the board approved the purchase of a 4‑inch Inserta Valve (Hydra Stop) for the North Church water well from Eagle Pipe and Supply for $6,792.00, the lowest of two quotes.
The board approved Pay Request #7 to Hemphill Construction Company, Inc. for the Hwy. 49 Eagle Post Road Sanitary Sewer Additions Phase II project in the amount of $12,900.20. The motion carried with Aldermen John Banks, Brian Grantham, Kyle Martin and Brent Sistrunk voting aye; Alderman Mason Herrin did not participate in that vote.
On the recommendation of City Engineer Tim Parker, the board also authorized and directed Mayor Trey Gunn to execute the contract with Thornton Construction Company, Inc. for the Hwy. 49 Eagle Post Road Sanitary Sewer Additions Phase III project, pending review and approval of the contract documents by the city attorney. That authorization carried with the same participation pattern as the pay request: Banks, Grantham, Martin and Sistrunk voting aye; Herrin not participating.
City Engineer Tim Parker was additionally directed to work with Horne CPA to explore whether the Jerry’s Fish House project could be funded through ARPA (the American Rescue Plan Act).
The meeting returned to regular session at 7:16 p.m.; the board adjourned at 7:17 p.m.
