Florence board appoints city officials, approves budget amendment and makes mayor full‑time

The Florence mayor and board of aldermen on July 1 approved a slate of appointments and administrative changes, including converting the mayor’s role to a full‑time position.
Mayor Trey Gunn recommended several appointments that the board confirmed. The board appointed Brian Grantham as mayor pro‑tem (Grantham abstained on that vote) and voted unanimously to appoint Attorney Bobby Lingold as city attorney and prosecutor; the board also authorized Gunn to execute an agreement with Lingold. Engineering Service/Tim Parker was approved as city engineer and the board authorized execution of the city engineer agreement. Linda Wigley was appointed city clerk, and Windham & Lacey, PLLC were named municipal auditors.
On the mayor’s recommendation the board also appointed Brad Burns as police chief; Melissa McCue as court clerk; Kevin Stewart as municipal judge; Witney Adams as judge pro‑tem; and Greg Hemphill as indigent attorney. All of those appointments carried on unanimous votes.
The board approved FYE 09/30/2025 Budget Amendment #1 upon recommendation of City Clerk Linda Wigley and authorized the disposal of non‑functioning office equipment as listed in the meeting attachments.
In a separate personnel and compensation action, the board voted unanimously to make the mayor’s position full‑time beginning Aug. 1, 2025, setting the annual salary at $70,000. The board also approved the claims docket and the minutes of June 17, 2025 (the minutes approval recorded two abstentions by Aldermen Kyle Martin and Brent Sistrunk).
