The Stokes County Board of Trustees approved its meeting agenda and the Oct. 14, 2024 minutes, heard an ethics statement, voted to enter closed session to consult with counsel and then adjourned.
The Chair called for a motion to approve the agenda; a motion and second were made and the Chair called the voice vote, indicating the ayes and that there was no opposition. The Chair then moved approval of the Oct. 14, 2024 board of trustees minutes; following a motion and second the Chair again called the vote and said the motion passed unanimously.
The Chair read an ethics and conflict-of-interest statement and asked whether any member had a known conflict or an appearance of conflict. The transcript does not record any member identifying a specific conflict on the record.
Christy then read a statutory justification for closing the meeting: "To prevent the disclosure of information as privileged or confidential pursuant to the law of the state or of The United States ... the public body may consider and give instructions to an attorney considering the handling or settlement of a claim, judicial action, mediation, arbitration, or administrative procedure." The Chair then asked for a motion to go into closed session; a motion and second were given, the Chair called the vote and the board went into closed session.
