Queenstown reviews Sunwise solar agreement; town savings expected to grow over time

David Castle of Sunwise Solar addressed the commissioners on Feb. 26, saying an error in the proposed solar contract had been corrected and that the town would receive a consolidated bill from Sunwise for electric use. Castle said example bills suggest the town’s kWh charges from Delmarva would decline or be eliminated once the town switches to the Sunwise agreement.
Finance Chair Pat Bowell reviewed the agreement and said the projected savings would not be large initially but could increase over time if town electric demand remains stable. Castle said current rules regarding community residential usage prevent town residents from joining jointly with the town on the program, but he said the Queenstown Volunteer Fire Company (QVFC) might be eligible and Sunwise would investigate and report back to the town.
Commissioners did not take formal action to execute the solar agreement at the Feb. 26 meeting; staff will follow up with additional eligibility details and any contract finalization steps.
