Middle Country board swears in new trustees, elects officers and approves consent agenda

The Middle Country Central School District Board of Education opened its meeting at 5:15 p.m. and swore in newly named trustees and the board's ex‑officio student member before reorganizing its leadership.

Stephanie Larkin, the district clerk, called the meeting to order and identified herself to the room. The clerk announced that Gina Cattillo Segelbaum, Nicole Peterson and Joyce Joseph Sittler were being sworn in as new board members; Liam McCarthy was sworn in as the ex‑officio student board member. The clerk noted Sophie Chen was not present and would be sworn in at a later meeting.

The board then moved to elect officers. After nominations, Dawn Chirac was elected president by voice/hand vote and subsequently took the oath to support the constitutions of the United States and the state of New York and to “faithfully discharge the duties of office of the president of the Middle Country Central School District Board of Education.” A separate nomination of Bob Feeney resulted in his election as vice president; he repeated the oath and pledged to discharge the duties of the vice president.

A motion to accept the consent agenda covering OM 1 through OM 21 was made and seconded. The presiding officer called for the vote and announced that the motion carried.

The presiding officer then administered oaths of office for several board‑appointed district positions, including superintendent of schools, district clerk, deputy district clerk, deputy clerk pro tem, district treasurer, deputy district treasurer, claims auditor and claims auditor backup; appointees repeated the oath to support the constitutions and to discharge their duties.

Before moving to executive session, the clerk introduced Sophie Chen to attendees and said her swearing would occur at a subsequent meeting. The board voted to enter executive session after a motion and second; the presiding officer called the vote and announced the motion carried.

The meeting record shows no roll‑call tallies for the officer elections or consent agenda; the transcript records only that members raised their hands and that motions “carried.”
