The City of Florence on Aug. 19, 2025 voted to allow retiring Officer John Denton to purchase his formerly issued service weapon, a Glock 17 (serial # BHBU266), for $1.
Alderman Brian Grantham moved, seconded by Alderman John Banks, to establish the weapon's value at $1 under Section 45‑9‑191 of the Mississippi Code of 1972 and to implement Denton's offer to purchase it for that amount. The motion carried unanimously. Mayor Trey Gunn then adjourned the meeting at 6:55 p.m.
