Summary
At a Reidville workshop, Town Administrator Christine McKaba reviewed the SCDOT Highway 296 Widening Project and asked residents to send concerns to Bob Jordan, Justin Beardsley, or herself so the town can relay comments to SPATS and SCDOT; council members noted the town can express preferences but final decisions rest with SCDOT.

Christine McKaba, the town administrator, opened the Reidville workshop with an overview of the SCDOT Highway 296 Widening Project and urged attendees to forward any concerns to Councilmember Bob Jordan, Councilmember Justin Beardsley, or to her office so those comments can be relayed to SPATS and the South Carolina Department of Transportation.
Bob Jordan noted that he and Mayor Josh Simpson serve on the SPATS board and explained the town can express preferences to the regional transportation authority but that final decisions — including design features such as roundabouts — are made by SCDOT.
Ms. McKaba told the group that project documents are available online on the Spartanburg County SPATS website and encouraged residents to review posted concept materials and submit comments. No formal motion or vote on the SCDOT project occurred at the workshop; the town framed this session as an informational review and a forum for collecting public input.
The workshop made clear that while town officials can advocate to SPATS, engineering and safety determinations for state highways are ultimately SCDOT responsibilities. Attendees were directed to the Spartanburg County SPATS “Road & Intersection Projects” page for full concept drawings and technical documents.
