Sherborn commission weighs mapping, soil testing and equipment for Pine Hill and Plain cemeteries

The Sherborn Cemetery Commission used its May 20 meeting to address several operational items affecting Pine Hill and Plain cemeteries. A meeting with mapping firm BSC was postponed to May 21 and will take place at Pine Hill, and BSC has sent a current working set of plans for review.
Commission guest Sue Tyler suggested obtaining a metal detector to help locate buried metal markers. The minutes record that a phone kiosk has been installed and the final step is installation of the phone itself. Tree work at Plain Cemetery is ongoing.
The commission agreed Pine Hill needs a Post Office address to improve location in mapping services such as Google Maps. A resident raised concerns about soil quality on Pine Hill; the commission asked the resident to take 12 soil core samples (the minutes state approximately $40 per sample) including slopes where minister burials are located, and to report results to Associate Member George Fiske for commission evaluation.
Other operational notes: Sean Killean should be contacted about mowing an unused new section at Pine Hill; Robert D'Eramo will follow up with gravedigger Rob Scott about granite post realignment in section G; and Sue Tyler will send a plot plan for South Cemetery so the commission can consider fencing options. Corey Lincoln's deed is due and lot numbering will be established by upcoming BSC map revisions.
