Residents press commission on slow park-board appointments and delayed grants; budget amendment tabled

Several residents used the Nov. 3 public-comment period to urge the commission to speed up appointments to the Park Commission and to move more quickly on business grants and other local initiatives.
One resident said it had been 17 months since first applying to serve on the Park Commission and expressed frustration that the board remained understaffed; others said they had applied multiple times without response. A business owner said a grant-related project has been delayed at least 12–13 months and asked when the commission would revisit the item.
Town staff acknowledged the delays and noted advertising and statutory requirements for appointments; commissioners said they wanted to see the audit and clear budget numbers before approving grant allocations or the proposed FY25 budget amendment. Town staff reported a FY25 surplus of $289,002.76 but commissioners agreed to table the budget adoption until the audit provides full numbers.
The commission asked staff to bring the budget details and audit results to a work session and to follow up with applicants for the park board and grant programs so the commission can act more quickly once the financial picture is confirmed.
