Florence board removes 'full-time' language from earlier motion on mayor's role

The Florence mayor and board on Aug. 5 adopted a board order to amend a motion made July 1 by removing the phrase "full-time position" as applied to the office of mayor.
Alderman John Banks moved the amendment, citing reviewed Mississippi Attorney General opinions that the law does not designate the mayor's office as either a full-time or part-time position. City Attorney Bobby Lingold presented the legal recommendation. The board recorded aye votes from Aldermen Banks, Grantham, Herrin, Martin and Sistrunk; the order preserves all other aspects of the July 1 motion, including the salary decision.
