Wappingers board hears capital improvement plan: summer HVAC, field and safety work scheduled

The Wappingers Central School District's capital improvement committee on May 5 reported progress and near-term plans for facility upgrades, telling the board at its May 11 meeting that summer work will include HVAC system updates and stadium/field improvements.
"For the 2023 capital projects phase 2, work will be done at Van Wyck on the unit ventilator replacements and new exhaust fans this summer and HVAC upgrades to the main office and health suite," said Miss Megetz, chair of the capital improvement committee, summarizing the committee's May 5 meeting. The committee noted final closeout paperwork remains pending for 2023 Phase 1 projects and that Phase 2 schematic design is underway.
The committee described planned renovations to athletic fields and spectator amenities at Roy C. Ketcham High School, including lighting and bleacher upgrades, and reported that the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is completing a wetland delineation tied to the field work. Committee members also said architects have been meeting with stakeholders to define kitchen and classroom technology requirements and that the Van Wyck junior-high auditorium and John Jay and Roy C. Ketcham field sound systems need additional work.
Miss Megetz said the committee reviewed site layout and emergency vehicle access, fencing and landscaping at Myers Corners Elementary related to a new fire alarm project and is examining traffic flow, drop-off, and parent pick-up improvements at multiple schools to improve student and staff safety. "The committee is recommending working with town, county, and state traffic and public safety for short-term and long-term improvements," she said.
The report indicated architects will continue stakeholder meetings and that the district intends to coordinate with contractors and engineering firms to complete bid and construction steps: "Phase 1 is in the bidding process, and that is scheduled to complete on May 19," Megetz told the board.
Board members asked for continued attention to site access and safety. No formal vote was required at the meeting on the committee's recommendations; committee work and several items referenced in the report are proceeding through design and bidding stages.
Looking ahead, the committee indicated further updates will come as schematic designs are finalized, wetland delineations complete, and bids are evaluated.
