East Ocean View civic leader urges restored shore sustainment funding and a long‑term plan

Malamos said Norfolk previously dedicated about $6,000,000 annually for sustainment and that recent Army Corps schedule delays will push the federal project out by two to three years, effectively stretching nourishment cycles to 10–12 years and worsening erosion hotspots. He asked the council to add funds now for the East Ocean View hot spot and to consider short‑term annual sustainment funding beyond sporadic federal grants.
Malamos noted that two of the Army Corps' three identified hot spots are included in the proposed budget but said East Ocean View is not; he linked underfunding to increased property vulnerability and urged collaboration through the Coastal Management Review Board.
