Administrators report progress on data-privacy agreements, summer school and device procurement

District administrators provided several routine operational updates at the RSU 26 School Board meeting.
Susan (S5) reported the district is making progress securing data privacy agreements for software used by students through a consortium called TEC, noting the consortium fee is about $1 per student per year and that the district is using a prorated trial this spring for less than $150. She said 72 DPAs are in place and 2–3 companies have declined to sign because they cannot comply with FERPA and COPPA requirements.
Susan also outlined summer school planning: summer school will run roughly June 30 through July 30 on Tuesday–Thursday mornings; four coordinators are named (Linda Manning, Amanda Palmer, Jess Archer and Matthew Terrell); staffing is nearly complete but the district is still recruiting one van driver and some contracted OT/PT services.
Superintendent (S4) updated the board on a planned device procurement for ninth‑grade students, saying the vendor quote includes a three‑year AppleCare warranty, Jamf licensing and a case. The superintendent stated a quoted per‑device price of "6.79 95" (as spoken) including the warranty and licensing and said a vendor rebate of "4.79" would leave a net cost of about $200 per device as the district calculated; she characterized the total purchase as within the budget allocated for technology needs.
Other administrative notes: 360 surveys for principals and the special services director are open through May 13; the policy subcommittee will meet to discuss AI guidelines; the annual budget meeting (town meeting) is scheduled for May 19 in the Performing Arts Center with childcare provided; the next regular board meeting will be May 26 at 6 p.m. in the library and on Zoom.
