Lubbock ISD trustees ratify multiple principal assignments, including Mackenzie Middle hire

The Lubbock Independent School District Board of Trustees unanimously approved multiple principal assignments during its morning meeting, ratifying Jason Cheslock as principal of Mackenzie Middle School and approving principal assignments at Wilfrid and Wolforth elementary campuses.

Jason Cheslock, who the board moved to hire following a closed session, told trustees he was “deeply honored and grateful” for the opportunity to lead Mackenzie Middle School and pledged to prioritize people-centered accountability and collaboration across the Coronado feeder pattern. Superintendent Dr. Rolo thanked Cheslock for his willingness to serve, saying the district believes he can take the campus “to the next level.”

Trustee Lalla Chavez moved to ratify Melissa Hernandez as principal of Wilfrid Elementary School; the motion was seconded and recorded as a unanimous vote. Separately, an appointee identifying herself as Amanda accepted an assignment at Wolforth Elementary and emphasized a commitment to the district’s mission of serving “every child, every day.” Superintendent Rolo praised the appointees’ records and thanked principals who attended the early meeting for their participation.

All personnel actions recorded during the session were approved by voice or show of hands with no votes opposed. The board recessed briefly for photos following the ratifications before continuing the agenda.

The appointments were taken after an executive closed session; the board announced the closed session was held under Texas Government Code chapter 551 and reconvened to vote on the personnel matters.
