Monmouth County Parks details maintenance building upgrades for Hartshorne Woods and Thompson Park

Monmouth County Parks System representatives presented proposed upgrades to maintenance buildings at Hartshorne Woods Park and Thompson Park during the Middletown Planning Board meeting on March 4, 2026.
Paul Gleitz, P.P., and architect Maryam Tronco described improvements to the Hartshorne Woods Park maintenance building and surrounding maintenance area and to Thompson Park's maintenance building. Tronco stated the Hartshorne building does not have sprinklers and "the building will be 3,800 square feet." The board noted Thompson Park is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and the applicants said the Thompson Park plans were designed with extra sensitivity because of that listing.
Board members asked practical questions about storage and operations: whether the concrete storage area would be poured concrete or bin blocks (Tronco confirmed poured concrete), whether gas tanks would be enclosed (the applicants confirmed they would be enclosed in a concrete structure), and whether public access would be added near the maintenance area (applicants said no public access is proposed). Director of Planning Amy H. Citrano agreed to prepare a memo or resolution memorializing the appearance and testimony provided.
The planning board took these presentations as part of its capital review process; no approvals or votes specific to project adoption were recorded at the March 4 meeting.
