Panama City program marks 10 years, opens applications for free exterior home repairs

An agency official with Panama City's Community Redevelopment Agency said the decade-long partnership has led to more than 100 homeowners receiving exterior repairs intended to improve safety, reduce blight and strengthen historic neighborhoods. "More than 100 homeowners have received free exterior repairs, improving safety, reducing blight, and strengthening the character of our historic neighborhoods," the agency official stated.
A homeowner who received assistance described the personal impact of the program after Hurricane Michael. "When I got the message, I felt like Extreme Homemaker," the resident said, describing the emotional relief and financial challenge of repairing storm damage. The resident said the work and partnership felt like "a blessing," noting that repair costs were high in the current economy.
The agency official said volunteer teams from across the country travel to Panama City each summer to serve with the World Changers organization while the CRA supplies materials so that volunteers can complete essential exterior improvements at no cost to participating homeowners. "Applications for the Summer 2026 World Changers Neighborhood Improvement Program are open now through 05/31/2026," the agency official added, and eligible homeowners in the Downtown North and Millville CRA districts can apply online at panamacity.gov.
Program organizers framed the work as community-driven: "Scenes like this are made possible through dedication, partnership, and a shared belief in lifting up our neighborhoods, one home at a time," the agency official said, urging residents and neighbors to help spread the word as the program celebrates a decade of service.
