Resident urges DOT connection at 30th Avenue South and questions town-owned lot behind 4:20 Store

Paul Curry spoke during public time about South Carolina Department of Transportation safety improvements proposed for Highway 17 and urged officials to consider connecting east and west sides of town through 30th Avenue South, where a traffic signal exists. Curry said he was disturbed by an earlier DOT presentation that did not focus on that connection and noted he believes the town has already acquired part of the property that DOT would need.
Curry told the council the town acquired the paved area behind the 4:20 Store in January 2024 and said he had not seen condemnation proceedings; he described debris on the lot including storage containers, wooden pallets and damaged appliances and asked why the town was not cleaning the property. "If that is Town property, I don't understand why the Town isn't cleaning it up," he said.
Mayor Pro Tem John David acknowledged Curry's comments. The council did not take formal action during the meeting; Curry urged follow-up about DOT plans and cleanup of the town-owned parcel.
