The Tennessee House passed House Bill 15-36, the Tennessee Agricultural Innovation and Education Initiative, on third and final consideration after adopting committee amendments and a renaming amendment honoring Representative Johnny Shaw.
Representative Johnny Shaw, the bill's sponsor, told the chamber the measure was intended to create an agricultural innovation and education program and moved passage pending questions. Committee amendments were adopted to set the bill's annual appropriation and to conform language to committee recommendations.
Chairman Todd described the amendment that named the bill "the Tennessee Agricultural Innovation and Education Initiative," and Chairman Hicks explained that one adopted amendment sets the annual appropriation. Representative Shaw thanked colleagues and said this bill is one of the last he'll carry in his tenure on the floor.
Representative Chisholm asked that members of the Black Caucus be added as co-prime sponsors; the presiding officer noted objections and standard procedures on sponsorship but the bill moved forward with adopted amendments.
The clerk recorded the final vote with 85 ayes and 8 nays, and the presiding officer declared the bill passed. The bill will proceed to any further enrollment or transmittal steps required by the legislative process.
The House considered several other routine items during the same calendar, and the body recessed for committee work later in the day.
