Commissioners accept $80,000 MDOC grant for Community Corrections; one commissioner objects

Commissioner Webster moved to accept the grant and Commissioner Emery seconded. The motion carried with Commissioners Howard, Emery, Webster, Johnson and Chairman Gregory Brodeur voting yes and Commissioner Garber voting no. The meeting record identifies the grant amount as $80,000 and states it is for the Community Corrections Advisory Board.
Earlier in the same meeting the board approved the replacement of one correctional deputy not to exceed Step 3; that staffing motion passed unanimously (6–0) on a motion by Commissioner Webster and a second from Commissioner Howard.
The minutes do not record discussion explaining Commissioner Garber’s dissent on the grant. The grant acceptance was recorded as an approved item in the board minutes; implementation and oversight of the grant will be handled by the county’s Community Corrections program.
