Shiawassee County approves $4.84 million in bills, renews multiple public-health and school contracts

Shiawassee County commissioners approved routine financial and contract items at their Sept. 11 meeting in Corunna, including payment authorizations totaling $4,837,403.09 and multiple service contract renewals.
The board voted to authorize warrants covering Invoice Edit Reports from Aug. 23 and Aug. 30 and Sept. 5 and Sept. 6, 2024, and payroll batches for Aug. 2, Aug. 16 and Aug. 30, 2024, along with wire transfers, ACH and EFTs, for a grand total of $4,837,403.09. The motion passed on a roll-call vote of six yeas (Commissioners Johnson, Garber, Howard, Emery, Webster and Chairman Gregory Brodeur) and zero nays.
Commissioners also approved a proposal from Fleis & Vandenbrink to provide support for the county Brownfield Redevelopment Board and redevelopment plans. Doug Corwin, the county public defender, thanked the board for recent renovations to the District Court building during the same agenda item; the Brownfield support motion carried 6–0.
The board authorized a set of contract renewals and agreements affecting public health and school-based services:
- A renewal with the Shiawassee Regional Educational Service District for hearing and vision screening services not to exceed $15,747; the motion carried 6–0.
- Contract renewals with Shiawassee Health and Wellness for social work services for the Perry Schools Child and Adolescent Health Program and for the Durand School Wellness Program, each in amounts not to exceed $86,258; both motions carried 6–0.
- A contract renewal with Convenient Urgent Care for sexually transmitted infection services; the contract was approved 6–0. (The meeting record did not specify the contract amount.)
- A contract with PMC for temporary nursing services, approved 6–0.
The board also approved routine committee minutes (Finance & Administration; Public Safety & Courts; Health & Human Services) and an agreement between Mr. Ogbonnaya and the Shiawassee County Health Department covering 10/1/24–9/30/25; that contract was approved on a 6–0 roll call and the chair was authorized to execute it.
Most items were handled on motions from Commissioners Garber, Howard or Webster and carried unanimously or by unanimous roll-call vote when noted. The meeting adjourned at 5:33 p.m.
The actions approved will be executed by the county and returned as required; specific contract documents will be available from the county clerk’s office.
