Brentwood fire chief reports hiring progress, engine delivery delay and new FEMA reporting

Fire Chief Ed Beirne told the commission the department completed new-hire testing on Feb. 13: 10 candidates participated in an oral interview panel and a medical practical scenario to fill two vacancies created by recent administrative promotions. Conditional offers of employment have been extended and the department is awaiting confirmations.
Chief Beirne said the final inspection trip for the new 2026 Pierce engine was canceled after roll-up compartment doors destined for the assembly plant were destroyed in transit in a vehicle accident. Replacement doors were ordered; an updated timeline for project completion was not available at the meeting.
The chief also reported that the department's records-management-system vendor, ESO, has implemented the FEMA National Emergency Response Information System (NERIS). Monthly performance-measure reports will resume and reflect new alarm-classification categories under NERIS.
