Public Safety Commission forwards two contract items, approves minutes and declines to opt out of temporary World Cup liquor hours

The Brentwood Public Safety Commission approved its Jan. 28 meeting minutes and forwarded two items for further review on Feb. 25.
A motion by Alderman Jeff Gould, seconded by Alderwoman Sharon Harter, carried to approve the consent agenda (roll call: Sims, Gould, Harter, Plufka — all aye). The minutes were entered as the approved record of the previous meeting.
On new business, the commission discussed HB 1041, a state bill that would temporarily allow establishments licensed to sell intoxicating liquor by the drink to operate extended hours (June 11–July 19, 2026) for the FIFA World Cup unless a municipality opts out. The committee discussed whether Brentwood should adopt an ordinance to opt out but "agreed to take no action," effectively leaving the decision to the citywide Board or electing not to enact a local exemption at the committee level.
Separately, staff reported that St. Louis County had increased its inmate-housing per diem from $50 to $75 via a Dec. 16, 2025 order. The department estimated the change would increase Brentwood's costs by roughly $2,000 in the current year. Alderwoman Sunny Sims moved and Alderwoman Sharon Harter seconded forwarding the county-housing cost amendment to the full Board of Aldermen with a recommendation for approval; roll call: Sims, Gould, Harter, Plufka — all aye.
The commission also reviewed an amendment to the city's Stryker/Physio Controls equipment contract, which would consolidate coverage for city-owned AEDs, monitor/defibrillators, stretchers and related devices through February 2029. The updated contract would cost $15,590.70 per year (three years; $46,772.10 total) and add $5,902.68 over the three-year period compared with current coverage; equipment moving to the new contract would be pro-rated at 32-month pricing. Alderman Jeff Gould moved and Alderwoman Sharon Harter seconded forwarding the amended agreement to the Ways and Means Committee with a recommendation for approval; roll call: Sims, Gould, Harter, Plufka — all aye.
There were no dissenting votes recorded on the motions forwarded from the commission. The meeting adjourned at 5:57 p.m.
