The Board of Garfield County Commissioners entered an executive session at 9:29 a.m. on April 27 to receive confidential legal advice concerning litigation captioned Thomas and Sherry Cassody, individually and as special administrators for the estate of Weston Cassody, v. Garfield County Sheriff, Case No. CIV-24-595 SLP, pending in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma.
Member Joe Kegin Jr. made the motion to go into executive session under Title 25 O.S. § 396(B)(4). The board voted to enter closed session and returned at 9:38 a.m. Chairman Clarence Maly reported that there was no action taken by the board following the executive session.
The meeting minutes state that public disclosure of the communications discussed in executive session would “seriously impair the ability of the Board and its attorney to properly process and defend this litigation,” and therefore the communications were recorded as confidential. No votes or public directives related to the litigation were recorded in open session.
