District Attorney Sarah Japour reported to the Heard County Board of Commissioners on May 21 that the first full year following the judicial circuit split has produced improved case turnover and a reduced jail population.
Japour said her office completed several major trials and is maintaining a full case-processing cycle. She told commissioners she was not requesting additional funding in the current budget year but warned that statewide salary adjustments for attorneys and staff will require increased county contributions beginning January 2027. She outlined expected salary gaps for attorneys and staff and asked the Board to be aware of those future obligations.
Commissioners thanked Japour for her office’s work and the improvements in case management. Victim Advocate Chan Holiday was present for the update, and Japour introduced her daughter who joined the meeting as an observer.
The Board did not take any formal action on the report; Japour’s salary-related concerns were noted for future budget planning.
