Brian Crafts updates board on unsafe-building repairs at 208 and 210 South Perry Street

Brian Crafts told the Attica Board of Works and Safety on July 7 that an engineer has identified four unsafe items at 208 South Perry Street and one at 210 South Perry Street and that crews have made significant progress on repairs.

"He has identified 4 items on 208 and 1 item on 210 South Perry that he deems to be unsafe," Crafts said, and added that workers have completed tuckpointing on the front facade, secured gutters and flashing, and removed loose masonry from several windowsills and lintels.

Crafts said not all items are finished. He told the board one cantilevered brick-and-stone outcrop was repaired rather than removed because the mason judged it "very solid"; Crafts said the engineer will inspect that feature at the next visit to determine whether removal is still necessary. He also acknowledged items 3 and 4 on the engineer—hecklist remained unaddressed for lack of time.

On an apparent long-standing crack along the structure, Crafts said the mason and the engineer judged it "of no immediate concern" and described some interior water intrusion as roof-associated. "That crack has probably been there for a very long time, and it isn't going anywhere anytime soon," Crafts said, while noting a full restoration would address it.

The board did not take formal action on the report at the meeting; Crafts said he expects to present a more complete package, with photos and the engineer's follow-up assessment, at the August meeting so the board can decide on any further required removals or work.
