Shiawassee County Board approves health grants, vendor contracts, equipment purchases and appointments

On health funding, the board approved two grant agreements with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services for Essential Local Public Health Services: one for $2,101,083 and one for $1,578,931 covering the period Oct. 1, 2024 through Sept. 30, 2025. The board also approved a grant agreement with the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy for Environmental Health Services in the amount of $102,685. Commissioners voted unanimously on each grant and authorized the board chair to execute the contracts.
The board approved multiple contracts and purchases across departments. It authorized payment of invoices, wire transfers, ACH and EFTs and payroll batches totaling $13,246,961.35 and directed warrants be drawn from the Treasury. The board approved a U.S. Archives contract for a clerk’s file shift not to exceed $12,500 and a Honeywell proposal to upgrade HVAC controls not to exceed $18,150. The board also approved purchase of two servers from GovConnection not to exceed $28,235, three vans for the Veteran Affairs Office not to exceed $105,000, and two golf carts from Carts R Us not to exceed $15,100. A contract with LACASA for Child Care Fund services was approved not to exceed $54,040.
In justice- and court-related business, the board accepted grant awards and contracts including a Michigan Mental Health Court grant of $82,705, an Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant of $79,000, the Michigan Drug Court Grant Program of $54,000 and the Swift and Sure Sanctions Probation Program grant of $55,000. The board also approved the chief judge’s request to appoint Krissi Lab and Alyson Caverson as non-attorney district court magistrates and confirmed Cynthia Civille’s appointment to the DHHS Board for a three-year term.
Other routine business included approval of the apportionment report and direction to spread millages on taxable value, approval of two rehabilitation mortgage discharges, approval of budget adjustments for wages and benefits, replacement of two correctional deputies up to Step 3, and several committee minutes. County Clerk Caroline Wilson reminded the board that early voting runs Oct. 26–Nov. 3 for the Nov. 5 general election; the meeting adjourned at 5:49 p.m.
