Shiawassee County board approves 2024 tax rate, $5.09M in warrants and multiple contracts

At its Aug. 14 meeting the Shiawassee County Board of Commissioners approved the L-4029 2024 tax rate request, authorized $5,085,929.62 in warrants and renewed or approved several contracts including a school nurse services agreement not to exceed $1.17 million and a WIC dietitian contract.
The Shiawassee County Board of Commissioners on Aug. 14 approved the county's 2024 tax rate request and authorized payment warrants totaling $5,085,929.62, along with several contract renewals and an intercounty agreement.
Commissioner Garber moved to approve the invoice edit reports, payroll and related transfers, and Commissioner Johnson seconded; the motion passed on a 4-0 roll call vote recorded for Commissioners Holzhausen, Johnson, Garber and Chairman Brodeur. The board instructed that warrants be drawn from the Treasury for the authorized payments.
The board also approved L-4029, the 2024 Tax Rate Request, and authorized the chair and county clerk to execute the document after a motion by Chairman Brodeur, seconded by Commissioner Holzhausen; that motion passed on a 4-0 roll call.
Other actions taken included renewal of a contract with Connie Brown to provide dietitian services in the WIC Program and authorization for the board chair to sign the contract; approval of a contract renewal with the Shiawassee Regional Service District for school nurse services in an amount not to exceed $1,170,000; and approval of a 6.37% indirect rate for SCOA pending completion of their rate study.
The board entered into an agreement with the Ottawa County Juvenile Detention Center for bed rental services and approved minutes from recent committee meetings. Chairman Brodeur's selection of Dawn Ritter to Shiawassee Health and Wellness was also approved by motion.
Most motions were moved by Commissioner Garber and seconded by Commissioner Johnson, and where recorded the roll call votes were unanimous among the four commissioners present. The meeting was held in the Commissioner Chambers at the Surbeck Building in Corunna and adjourned at 5:24 p.m.
