Committee forwards Stryker/Physio‑Control maintenance amendment after staff says cost increase is minimal

The Brentwood Public Safety Committee voted Feb. 25 to forward a resolution amending contract 14-64 so that Stryker/Physio‑Control will provide an umbrella maintenance agreement for municipal biomedical equipment, including Lifepak monitors, AEDs and power loaders.

The fire chief told the committee that the warranty on two Lifepak 35 units purchased with grant funds expires this year and that rolling all city-owned units into one pro‑care agreement will simplify tracking and maintenance. The chief said the consolidated contract will result in a slight increase in cost—about $970 over current budget across the three-year agreement—and that the additional cost is “negligible.” He summarized the change this way: “We were gonna pay for this stuff anyway, but now it will just be one cost under an umbrella contract.”

Committee members asked whether the increase required review by Ways & Means; staff replied that it would be taken to Ways & Means for informational purposes and that timing for the full board (March 16) leaves time to route it appropriately. The committee moved and seconded forwarding the amendment to the full Board of Aldermen with a recommendation for approval; roll-call votes were affirmative and the motion carried.

Why it matters: consolidating maintenance under a vendor-backed agreement can improve equipment uptime and simplify recordkeeping for items used in emergency medical responses. The fiscal impact described to the committee is modest but will be reflected in the fire department92s budget process.
