Local bakery awarded $25,000 Main Street matching grant

Kate, Main Street director, told the board that Mandy's Makes and Bakes was selected to receive a Main Street matching reimbursement grant and that the award will provide $25,000 for improvements.
"They were awarded the match on the main grant. Through this reimbursement grant, they are going to receive $25,000 to invest in improvements to their business," Kate said, adding that the program was competitive — roughly 60 businesses were approved statewide and only one Main Street community selection was made in each area.
Kate also said the bakery will participate in the Hartford Small Business Accelerator program to receive additional training and support as it expands. Board members and staff congratulated the business and noted the award was intended to help downtown entrepreneurs invest in their storefronts and operations.
Next steps: Mandy's Makes and Bakes will coordinate with Main Street staff on reimbursement paperwork and the timeline for improvements under the grant.
