Tensas Parish School Board approves routine contracts, rejects Newellton bids and raises mileage rate

ST. JOSEPH, La. — The Tensas Parish School Board on June 12 approved a package of routine administrative measures, rejected two low bids on a surplus school property and heard personnel announcements.
The board voted to reject two bids of $1,000 each for the Newellton Elementary School properties and to readvertise the sale after a motion by George Matthews, seconded by Annice Miller. The board approved minutes from its May 8 meeting in a unanimous procedural vote earlier in the session.
Board members approved a contract with Forethought Consulting, Inc. for policy‑ and CAPS‑updating services for the April 2025–March 2026 year for $9,100.00, and they approved JaniKing to perform stripping and waxing of school floors. The board also authorized leasing tower space at the Tensas Parish Material Center to CTI Towers.
The board received the April financial statement and budget‑to‑actual update and approved an increase in employee mileage reimbursement from $0.65 to $0.70 per mile, effective July 1, 2025. The property insurance provider for 2025–2026 was approved as PCAL.
In a series of resolutions the board adopted 'Certificate of Parish Governing Authority' authorizations with multiple banks — Cross Keys Bank, Tensas State Bank, Concordia Bank & Trust and Sabine State Bank — naming President John L. Turner and Superintendent Joyce M. Russ as authorized signatories for financial transactions.
Superintendent Joyce M. Russ presented retirement plaques to Deborah Parson and Pamela Elery and introduced Dr. Lopez as the incoming principal of Tensas High School, who greeted the board and audience. Russ also announced district scheduling and administrative notes, including staff attendance at the superintendent’s conference June 16–18 in Lake Charles, district office closures June 19 for Juneteenth and June 20 as the first Friday summer closure, reduced summer‑school attendance, End‑of‑Course testing for high school students the last week of June, a Pre‑K field trip to the Monroe zoo on June 26 and an elementary summer trip on June 27.
There were no contested votes recorded in the minutes; all motions recorded in the meeting summary passed. With no further business, the board adjourned.
