CDD discusses 10–12' storm‑surge scenario and asks Board representation for resilience planning

Eric Long, PSGRC general manager, told the River Ridge CDD Board on Oct. 22 that storm surge impacts have increased in recent years and that Pelican Sound is developing a multi‑year resilience action plan. Long described possible objectives including advisory/review panels and coordination with state and county partners.

Long presented a hypothetical topographic analysis of a Hurricane Milton scenario in which a 10–12 foot storm surge could flood an estimated 45–55% of the community. He said addressing the issue may take a decade and would require coordination across agencies and funding sources. Long requested that the CDD designate a Board representative and staff or engineering representative to coordinate on planning and partnerships; the consensus was that Long and Keith Merrill will assist and that Charlie Krebs is authorized to help as necessary.

District Counsel noted the Army Corps of Engineers has proposed ideas for Collier County that could be relevant if funding becomes available. The Board did not adopt a formal program or commit funding at the meeting but asked staff and partners to continue developing the plan.
