The Chadron City Council voted to approve several equipment purchases and to award the city fuel contract at its recent meeting.
Council members approved resolution 2024-107 to recommend awarding a bid for a new 1/2-ton crew cab 4x4 pickup for the Chadron Municipal Airport. Staff told the council the low bid was a 2024 GMC while a dealer option was a 2025 unit; staff said an existing parks pickup will be surplused and the airport pickup being replaced will be transferred to the parks department.
The council also approved resolution 2024-108 to buy an ATV with a winch for the parks department. Staff presented three quotes (Polaris, Can-Am and Honda) and explained that optional accessories such as a windshield and a snowplow were priced separately so the purchase could remain within the department’s $10,000 equipment budget.
Resolution 2024-109, to purchase a 48-inch mower for parks maintenance, was approved after staff noted competitive quotes and preferences for a Ferris model used elsewhere in the fleet; staff emphasized the mower’s specific fit for cemetery work where narrower equipment is required.
On the fuel contract, city manager Tom summarized two proposals and recommended Common Sense based on a 14¢ per-gallon discount at pumps, tax handling and a volume-based rebate program. "Based on the information that was given to us, we are gonna be recommending Common Sense," Tom said, citing the vendor’s bid response and clarifications.
Council members asked technical and budget questions during each item; staff responded with specifics about accessory pricing, bid dates and budgeted funds for replacement and training. Each purchase and the fuel contract were approved by roll call.
The council’s approvals move forward the purchases and the fuel agreement; staff will proceed with ordering and processing under the terms described to the council.
