Middleton-Cross Plains board honors Seal of Biliteracy recipients, Envirothon champions and certified educators

The Middleton-Cross Plains Area School District Board spent a portion of its May 18 meeting honoring student and staff achievements.
Mandy Sersh Morstead, the district's director of multilingual services, introduced the fourth and largest district cohort of Wisconsin Seal of Biliteracy recipients. "We are so excited to celebrate 11 biliterate scholars with you all," Morstead said. The Seal cohort included students who demonstrated proficiency in English and another language; the advisors from Middleton High School who presented certificates were Jen Grace Yelny (Spanish), Katie Dupin (French) and Keanna Lambert (English and multilingual supports). Named recipients announced during the meeting included William Caso, Nathaniel Strait, Leonora Jannuzzi, Shaila Holland, Neil Bhandari, Michelle Lee, Maya Ashkenazi, Ava Greenberg (not present), Tarunee Veil Paru, Maher Owaed and Alexa Castro Diaz.
The board also recognized Middleton High School's Envirothon team for earning first place in the 2026 Wisconsin Envirothon. Superintendent Dana Menogue noted the team placed highest among 29 high school teams and will represent Wisconsin at the National Conservation Foundation Envirothon at Mississippi State University this summer. Adviser Leah Williams and team members Katarina Mader, Anna Wagner, Madeline Cleveland and Abby Spade were acknowledged; Natalie Miller was unable to attend.
In addition, the district honored several educators for professional accomplishments, including national board certification (Marnie Hyland, Amanda Strutmeyer and Leah Williams) and the Wisconsin master educator license (Heather Messer, Jennifer Breeze and Karen Murphy). The board also noted a group who achieved both credentials and recognized a cohort of nationally certified school nurses (Brynn Cunat, Jenna Buell, Margaret Lowell, Pam Vanmall and Penny Hendrickson). The board applauded these staff achievements and posed for photos.
Superintendent Menogue also reported that 95 high school students were awarded local scholarships at the district's scholarship night and reminded the public of an ongoing community survey related to a potential referendum.
