Facilities update details roofing progress; administration says custodial contracts could save about $269,000

Facilities director Hector Chapo updated the board on district roofing and maintenance work and summarized proposed custodial contract renewals at the May 18 SFDRCISD meeting.
Chapo reported that several wings of the high school are near completion: some wings are 95—8% finished while the 1000 wing stands at about 60% complete pending cap-sheet application and drainage finishing. On the mobile command unit canopy, Chapo said the roof work is complete and the district plans to pour a ramp tying asphalt to existing concrete later in the week; maintenance will add a perimeter skirt to protect against sun and hail.
Chapo also described planned procurement items on the consent agenda: renewal contracts with DLP custodial services for Blended Academy, Buena Vista Elementary, Chavita Elementary, Seneca Hills Elementary and Lamar Elementary, and proposed new contracts for Calderon Elementary and Lonnie Green. "The annual salary that the District was spending on 25 custodians amounts to $775,304.97," Chapo said. "The total cost of the DLP contracts for those campuses, including the new campuses, it's a little bit over $506,000 which generates a total savings of approximately $269,000 to the district." Board members asked whether jobs would be eliminated; a presenter clarified contracts would be filled through attrition and vacancies.
Chapo also provided 90-day work-order and closure-rate statistics for maintenance, technology and transportation departments. Trustees asked about possible rain impacts to roofs still in progress and received assurances that drain connections and protective measures were in place.
Later in the meeting the board approved the consent agenda as amended (including several contract renewals) and tabled a large Chromebook purchase (item F3) pending additional vendor quotes.
