New trustees sworn in; board elects officers after May 2 election canvass

San Felipe del Rio Consolidated Independent School District canvassed the May 2, 2026, board election and swore in newly elected trustees during its May 18 meeting.
Administrator Sandra Hernandez presented vote totals for four contested places, reporting Jesus Emilio Galindo received 1,727 votes for Place 1; Linda Guanajuato Webb 1,546 votes for Place 3; Brian Weston (unopposed) 2,436 votes for Place 4; and Rebecca Luna Chavez 1,555 votes for Place 5. "Attached separately is a detailed summary of the election results indicating the total number of votes received for each candidate," Hernandez said while presenting the canvass. A motion to approve the canvass was made by Amy Haines, seconded by Webb, and carried unanimously.
Judge Sergio Gonzalez administered the oath of office to the winners. Jesus Emilio Galindo recited the oath and was congratulated; Linda Winawata Webb, Bridal Clay Weston and Rebecca Luna Chavez also took the oath and offered brief remarks thanking voters and district staff. "I just wanna thank everyone for coming out and voting," Webb said after being sworn.
Under agenda item six, the board elected officers in accordance with policy BDAA. Joshua Overfelt was nominated and confirmed as Board President by unanimous vote. Emilio Galindo was nominated and elected vice president (the board recorded one abstention), and Diego Almaraz was chosen as board secretary (one abstention recorded). Chair remarks thanked outgoing leadership for prior service and welcomed the newly elected officers.
The board moved quickly from the organizational business to scheduled recognitions and reports. All final actions described here were taken in open session following the district's stated compliance with the Texas Open Meetings Act.
The board adjourned after approving the remainder of the agenda.
