Board members were briefed on three capital projects and approved several consent and governance items during the meeting.
Construction and Old Main. The district reported that vertical steel is up at the new middle school and a live camera feed is available for progress monitoring. For Old Main, contractors completed 3‑D scanning and staff identified masonry problems and leaking that will require additional masonry repair; a district official estimated the narrow masonry remediation could be on the order of "about $1,000,000" to stop further water intrusion and avoid mold abatement. The sports complex demolition and abatement schedule was described as starting this summer, with bids to follow for demolition and site prep; staff said the three projects have separate general contractors and separate budgets but share some bond funding constraints and timeline benchmarks.
Board actions and votes. In the action portion of the meeting the board:
- Approved the 2026–27 Statement of Assurance under ESSA and IDEA as presented (motion moved by a board member and seconded; chair announced passage). - Adopted revised 2026–27 Board of Education meeting dates (adding a June 12 retreat and setting a June 25 regular meeting). - Approved a veteran's diploma for a candidate who met Arkansas Code criteria (citation given in the presentation). - Approved the consent agenda that included bank reconciliation, business office items, monthly financial reports and construction updates. - After an executive closed session, accepted superintendent personnel recommendations; the chair called the roll and announced the motion passed.
The board did not discuss or amend the presented construction contracts at length during the public session, and staff said they will return with timelines for demolition, salvage/donation processes for Old Main artifacts, and final construction schedules.
