Trappe council approves new rubber surfacing at Lakeview Park in 4–1 vote

Town Administrator Erin Braband presented four quotes to remove the existing mulch and prepare the base for rubber surfacing and one quote to use pea gravel instead. Commissioner Walter Chase moved to accept Peake Contracting’s $5,550 bid to remove the mulch, grade the area, install two layers of landscape fabric and four layers of sand, and to accept Playground Outfitters’ $10,021.40 quote for rubber mulch. Commissioner Rose Potter seconded the motion.
Commissioners Michael Sullivan, President Schmidt, Rose Potter and Walter Chase voted in favor; Commissioner Jeremy Newnam voted against the motion. The meeting record does not include a stated reason for Newnam’s vote against the measure.
The approved scope as presented includes removal of the existing material, grading and installation of the fabric and base layers before placement of the rubber surfacing. The Council did not specify a start date for the work in the workshop minutes.
Under the motion, the Town will move forward with contracting the two vendors for their respective scopes. The Administrator will handle procurement steps and scheduling with the chosen contractors.
