The Grand Rapids Town Board approved an amendment to Ordinance 39 that updates the moving, building and structure permit fee to $200, effective May 13, 2026. The board held a public hearing on the change at the start of its May 13 meeting; no members of the public spoke in favor or opposition during that hearing.
Chair (speaker 2) introduced Resolution 2026-10 to implement the revised fee schedule and noted the item had previously been discussed in legislative committee and heard during the evening's public hearing. Jim (speaker 9) moved to approve the resolution and Adam (speaker 5) seconded. The board approved the motion by voice vote with one supervisor recorded as opposed.
Board members raised procedural and practical questions about how the ordinance defines a “building” and whether small sheds require a permit; responses noted the existing ordinance contains the definition and would be referenced as needed. The board also addressed a separate resident request for a waiver related to a moving permit and authorized the chair and the zoning administrator to negotiate a resolution without returning to the board.
The amendment to Ordinance 39 will take effect immediately on the stated effective date. The town clerk will incorporate the amendment into the town fee schedule and administer permit processing under the revised fee.
