The Hannibal City Council approved a staff recommendation on May 19 to install a marked crosswalk and two illuminated, solar-powered pedestrian signals at Market and Dar near the Grow and Learn daycare.
City Manager Andy Dorian said staff reviewed pedestrian traffic after a resident (Travis Bateman) highlighted children crossing a busy road daily; staff recommended painting the crossing, modifying the sidewalk, installing two illuminated signs and two solar-powered signals for push-button activation. Dorian said the total cost would be "less than $4,000." Council members expressed support for improving safety near the daycare and voted to approve the project by voice vote.
Next steps: staff will proceed with the minor sidewalk modifications and order the crossing equipment for installation.
