The Silvis City Council on Aug. 6 approved a set of routine and budgeted items moved from the Committee of the Whole to the Regular agenda, including an audit, several salary ordinances, the purchase of body-worn cameras and a sidewalk repair contract.
Alderwoman Chrissy Winters moved to approve the audit report from Lauterbach and Amen; the motion carried by roll call 7–0 with Alderman Dave Rice absent. The council also approved a license agreement with Punk Rock Pizza and a Special Event Permit for the Rail House, both moved forward from committee earlier in the evening.
On personnel measures, the council adopted Ordinance 2024-21 raising the City Clerk’s monthly salary from $7,200 to $7,700; the ordinance passed 6–1 with Alderman Joshua Dyer casting the lone dissent. Ordinance 2024-22 to set a 3% Collector salary increase over four years and Ordinance 2024-23 on wages and benefits were adopted unanimously.
For public safety, the council approved the purchase of Axon body cameras in the amount of $22,053.22. Alderman Craig Pirmann moved the item; the motion passed by unanimous vote. The council also renewed service with Tri-City Communications for $2,290.
On infrastructure, council members approved using Motor Fuel Tax (MFT) funds to repair sidewalks on 14th Street, authorizing an expenditure of $39,000. Alderman Bob Cervantes made the motion; it passed 7–0.
Most motions that were considered by the Committee of the Whole earlier in the meeting — including the Cost Allocation Plan and the El Pueblo RDA (which was tabled) — were either approved on the Regular agenda or otherwise acted on as listed in the meeting packet. The council established and approved a consent agenda before voting on the individual items.
The meeting adjourned at 9:30 p.m.
What’s next: Approved ordinances and purchases will proceed to implementation according to city procedures and budget authorizations.
