Lancaster ISD reports Ignite Reading gains and nearly $10 million in grants; board approves athletics travel and donations

Ignite Reading: District staff described Ignite Reading as a one-to-one, 15-minute daily virtual tutoring model grounded in the science of reading. Presenters said the program launched Jan. 12, served roughly 43 students initially and 55 students over the program cycle across three elementary campuses, observed 100% seat utilization, an 87% average attendance rate, and that 74% of participants demonstrated measurable growth. At the end of year MAP review, presenters reported 22 of 56 students who participated showed a 10-or-more point gain in reading percentile rank. The district is continuing funding discussions with partners for 2026-27.
Grant funding: The grants office reported $9,944,553 in active grant revenue for 2025-26 that supports 54 campus and district positions, funds interventions and mental health curricula, and is described as "revenue positive" (grants do not increase district debt). Grant staff said investment in local grant administration yields a high return on investment for the district.
Athletics travel and donations: The board approved multiple out-of-state travel requests for athletics and accepted a donation associated with the trips. The board accepted a $10,000 donation connected to a Nike-supported girls track trip to Eugene, Oregon, and authorized seven athletes and four coaches to attend; it approved boys basketball travel to Oklahoma City (Nov. 21'23) and girls basketball travel to Washington, D.C., and Freeport, Bahamas in December. All travel and donation motions carried unanimously.
Finance and facilities: The March 2026 financial report included a monthly tax collection figure ($325,180.73) and summaries of revenue and expenditures. Maintenance staff outlined bond-related summer capital priorities including replacement of approximately 186 HVAC units across the district and multiple roof replacements; timelines will depend on procurement and build times.
Board members asked clarifying questions about scope and costs; presenters indicated some expenses are covered by donors/hosts while district budgets will cover buses and meals in several cases. The board adopted the consent agenda and approved a $1,500 Dallas County Promise Economic Mobility Award acceptance for Lancaster High School.
